Apparently the vibe machine is working since Sandi & Rob made it through surgery with flying colors & mb has been nominated for a Grammy.

So belated vibes to Carly ((((((((((((())))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I understand the impulse to start drinking again with all the rationalizations that go with it. You have to convince yourself of what you already know: drinking doesn't work for you and you can't do it.

Good vibes directed towards Arlene & family.
As you probably realize, Arlene wouldn't ask for vibes on her own and wouldn't publicly go into details on her trials and tribulations, but good vibes are FLA>>>>>>>>>NY bound.

BTW, in some alternate texts of the Old Testament, when Satan is afflicting Job to test his faith, some of the townspeople are reported to have said "Job has the patience of Arlene!".

I just saw Bruce's post. I wasn't going to publicize this and thankfully, as it turns out, everything is going to be fine. Thanks for all of your thoughts.

I had mentioned on the board that my brother was married June 14th but what I didn't add was that it turns out he had walking pneumonia and a CAT scan two days after the wedding showed not only fluid on the lungs, but disturbing spots that could have been lung cancer. It turned out that he DOESN'T have cancer but had infected tissue in the membrane lining the lung. When they tried to perfrom laproscopic surgery to remove the infected tissue, they discovered that the tissue had oozed puss which hardened into a substance the strength of silicon that had pressed on his left lung to the point where it had virtually collapsed. The spots we feared were cancer were the hardened substance-- called empeyema-- and the surgeons had to open him up to remove the empeyema. He was hospitalized for 6 days, five of them in the cardiac ICU. He's going to be fine but won't be able to go to Germany to teach with his wife this summer-- he can't fly or even drive for 6 weeks. The last 10 days were an incredible roller coaster from the joy of the wedding, to the disturbing news that he had pneumonia, to the terrifying news that he might have lung cancer, to the better but still scary news that he had to have major surgery, to the hanging out outside the ICU.

Anyway, his recovery will be slow but my brother is going to be fine. Thanks everyone VERY MUCH for your thoughts.

Glad to hear that your brother is going to be okay, Arlene. I can only imagine that roller coaster ride. I bet the 10 days seemed like an eternity. I can attest that hanging out in the ICU is hell.
Hope your brother heals swiftly.
