Wal-Mart
I "need" a new monitor, so the new combo television/ computer monitors are appealing to me.
Wal-Mart is very close (and open on Easter) so I checked out their offerings and weighed all the alternatives of size, price & technical features *,
deciding on a Vizio 23 or 25 inch TV/ monitor that seemed head and shoulders above its competition. Couldn't find a boxed up TV on the shelves, so I went off looking for help (not easy on Easter). When I finally found a salesperson, she pleasantly informed me "Isn't that TV great? You want one? Sorry, those have been back-ordered since before Xmas and it's exclusive to this particular store."

*BTW, thanks to Arlene for explaining the technical benefits of 1080p VS. 780i. Her alleged expertise was most welcome.

Ummmmmm, I'm not quite sure if you're being so sophisticatedly clever that the humor is over my head or if you actually think that member's avatars are the actual members?

Clever on occasion; sophisticated would be a stretch!

On a purely visceral level, it creeps me out. Could you change it to something warmer and more inviting, Tonto?

Done! I chose someone quite warm who even Iraqis would find inviting...... who would even be greeted as a "liberator".

Sorry, but I couldn't resist playing the Cheney card.
Now that the two images are side-by-side, I'm noticing some family resemblance??
That prominent trigger finger? Those haunting/ haunted eyes? That hairline?

I noticed the finger, too. And nice TV. I like what it does to Cheney's eyes. But if those are the only two channels, I'll stick to Nosferatu. He's way less creepy.

And although this is unconfirmed, I believe Cheney arrived here on a ship from Transylvania. But weirdly enough, all the crew were dead.

When your time on the internet drastically shifts from watching music vids on YouTube to investigating the stages of Alzheimer's---

and you realize that your father is in stage 6 of 7 stages, and it's all downhill from here.

Bruce- There may be nothing more difficult than watching the deterioration of the mental faculties of someone you love other than, perhaps, experiencing the early stages of that condition and knowing the eventual outcome. I'll communicate by e-mail but in the meantime, I hope you are working with a support group of others who are also serving as care-givers. My thoughts are with you and your family, especially your father.

So sorry to hear this, Bruce. If it's any help, I recently did a touch of work with this group who use music as part of therapy. Dr. Oliver Sacks, of Awakenings fame, is involved. Take the iPod out of the equation if you like, but some of this info might help your dad. And you.

Thanks Arlene & Rob.
Someone on an Alzheimer's facebook group had been suggesting the music therapy route; now that things have worsened, I'll have to reinvestigate the technique and give it a whirl.

I think I could deal with the memory loss of dementia, but I wasn't really prepared for it turning my father into such a mean, belligerent man towards me (while remaining all sweetness & light towards absolute strangers on the nursing staff).
