Troubled Mind - Catie Curtis

I've been getting down about all the run-around
About all the pushing and the standing in line
But like my friends say, you gotta do it anyway
And it just gets harder when you ask why

And I'm tired from all the weight
Tired of being strong
So won't you come and stay
Let me lay down in your arms
Down in your arms

I've been getting up early, I've been getting my coffee
I've been getting in the car and driving all over town
Talking to myself while I'm taking off my seatbelt
Some people don't know how to slow down

And I'm tired from all the weight
Tired of being strong
So won't you come and stay
Let me lay down in your arms
Down in your arms

I've got a troubled, a troubled mind
And you've got a heart, a heart so kind
So kind

So pack an overnight bag, don't worry about what you have
'Cause if you need something, you can just use mine
And you don't have to promise more than you want to
But if you want to see me, this would be a good time

'Cause I'm tired from all the weight
Tired of being strong
So won't you come and stay
Let me lay down in your arms
Down in your arms

Momma said lift your head from the sieve of your hands. Momma say eventually this hurting will end. But the shockwaves on my bones will linger like the ghost of you here in my bed. When I was lost you thought me a beautiful find. Sometimes I think of you sleeping so sleep for a while. I find myself asking “Who’d do this to love?” And the white shouldered mountains they pointed up. Oh, Lord, you just dropped me here by the side of this road. Out here’s to cold and I don’t want to walk it alone. I’ve got a bottle of your blood inside me and an old beggar’s prayer on the tip of my tongue.

state trooper thinks I drive too fast
pulled me over to tell me so
I say, "out here on the prairie
any speed is too slow"
I miss brooklyn, I miss my crew
let's start over, I missed my cue
guess I forgot who I was talking to...

I should have recognized
that fierce look in his eyes
I've seen it in the mirror so many times
he's gonna put his two cents in
cuz he's got a gun
but I'm gonna put in three
cuz history owes me one

guess I came out here to see some stuff for myself
I mean, why leave the telling
up to everybody else?
this may be god's country
but it is my country too
move over, mister holiness
and let the little people through

thank you for serving and protecting the likes of me
thank you for the ticket...
now can I leave?
you know I have left everywhere
I have ever been
I don't really recommend it
though it's not like anyone asked me

maybe you and I will meet again someday
I've been known to come down this road
call it destiny
then again, maybe not
I don't know

I had a craving to hear this song today and found that my cd was SCRATCHED on ONLY THIS TRACK and it skips like a motherfucker. Aaaaaaargh.

I had one friend in high school
recently he hung himself with string
his note said "if living is the problem
well then that's just baffling"
and at the wake I waited around to see my ex first love
and I barely recognized her
but I knew exactly what she was thinking of
we sat quietly in a corner
whispering close about loss
and I remembered why I loved her
and I asked her why I drove her off
she said "the slow fade of love
its soft edge might cut you
and our poor friend Jim
he just lived within
the slow fade of love"

a woman calls my house once a week
she's always selling things
some charity, a phone plan
a subscription to a magazine
and as I turned her down - I always do -
I noticed something trembling in her voice
I said "hey, what troubles you?"
she said, "I'm surprised you noticed...
well my husband is leaving and I can't convince him to stay
and he'll take our daughter with him
she wants to go with him anyway
I'm sorry I'm hard to live with
living is the problem for me
I'm selling people things they don't want
and I don't know what you need"
he said "the slow fade of love
and it's mist might choke you
it's my gradual descent
into a life I never meant -
the slow fade of love"

I was driving south of Melrose
and I happened upon my old lover's old house
I found myself staring at the closed-up door
like the day she threw me out
"Diana, Diana, Diana, I would die for you!
I'm in love with you completely
I'm afraid that's all I can do"
she said "you can sleep upon my doorstep
you can promise me indifference, Jim...
but my mind is made up
and I'll never let you in again"
it's the slow fade of love
it might hit you from below
it's your gradual descent
into a life you never meant
the slow fade of love

it's the slow fade of love
the slow fade of love
it's the slow fade of love

-- rilo kiley (jenny lewis)

so...

Postby Gretzky » Thu Sep 25, 2008 12:09 am

I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink
No,no,no.

I'm so tired I don't know what to do
I'm so tired my mind is set on you
I wonder should I call you but I know what you would do

You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
for a little peace of mind

I'm so tired, I'm feeling so upset
Although I'm so tired I'll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid git.

You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
for a little peace of mind
I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind...
step up and bless the mic

for some who-knows-what reason, a Jesus song is stuck in my head today.

oh, my baby, when you're older
maybe then you'll understand
you have angels to dance around your shoulder
cuz at times in life you'll need a helping hand

oh, my baby, when you're prayin'
leave your burden at my door
you have Jesus standing at your bedside
to keep you calm, keep you safe, away from harm

worry not, my daughter
worry not, my son
child, when life don't seem worth livin'
come to Jesus, let him hold you in his arms

oh, my baby, when you're cryin'
never hide your face from me
cuz I have conquered hell and driven out the demons
I have come with a light to set you free

worry not, my daughters
worry not, my sons
child, when life don't seem worth livin'
come to Jesus, let him hold you in his arms
come to Jesus, let him hold you in his arms

oh, my baby, when you're dyin'
believe the healing of his hands
here in heaven we will wait for your arrival
here in heaven you will finally understand

here in heaven we will wait for your arrival
here in heaven you will finally understand

worry not, my daughters
worry not, my sons
child, when life don't seem worth livin'
come to Jesus, let him hold you in his arms

once I had a heart like a mean old hen
kept it locked up in a chicken-wire pen
cluckin' at the walls, scratchin' at the ground
peck at anybody who would come around

then one day she didn't sing
I listened close but I didn't hear a thing
lookin' all around, callin' her name
bitter was the day that little hen went tame

cluck old hen, cluck and sing
ain't laid nothin' since late last spring
cluck old hen, cluck and squawl
ain't laid nothin' since way last fall

I made it clink and I made it clang
I shook my heart like a piggy bank
lookin' for a yes, lookin' for a no
lookin' for anything down in that hole

cluck old hen, cluck and sing
ain't laid nothin' since late last spring
cluck old hen, cluck and squawl
ain't laid nothin' since way last fall

once I had a heart like a mean old hen
bound to lose a finger if you stick it in the pen
made 'em yell, made 'em shout
made 'em cry like you read about

once I had a heart like a little child
once it was greedy, once it was wild
kickin' like a mule, chewin' like a pup
once upon a time you couldn't shut it up

cluck old hen, cluck and sing
ain't laid nothin' since late last spring
cluck old hen, cluck and squawl
ain't laid nothin' since way last fall

Harry got up ...

Postby outta » Wed Oct 08, 2008 8:34 pm

Harry got up
Dressed all in black
Went down to the station
And he never came back
They found his clothing
Scattered somewhere down the track
And he won't be down on Wall Street
in the morning

He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfurl
One day he crossed some line
And he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore

In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute

Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hand on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door

In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
Things can get a little strange
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute

And in these days
When darkness falls early
And people rush home
To the ones they love
You better take a fool's advice
And take care of your own
One day they're here;
Next day they're gone

I pulled my coat around my shoulders
And took a walk down through the park
The leaves were falling around me
The groaning city in the gathering dark
On some solitary rock
A desperate lover left his mark,
"Baby, I've changed. Please come back."

What the head makes cloudy
The heart makes very clear
The days were so much brighter
In the time when she was here
But I know there's somebody somewhere
Make these dark clouds disappear
Until that day, I have to believe
I believe, I believe

In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
You can get out of the rain
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute

And it's a shame now, baby
You can't see yourself in everything you're running from
And it's the same world, honey
That has brought you down
As the one that's gonna pick you up
And it's a shame now, baby
You can't separate yourself from where you stood
And it's the same world, honey
Made you feel so bad
As the one that makes you feel so good
Feel so good

- Maria Taylor - A Good Start

^ Completely obsessed with this song, right now! So good!

I still have your memory.
One or two pictures of you and me.
Life is long and life is tough,
But when you love someone,
Life is not long enough.

oh god, deliver me
from my enemies
these women in green
with their clothes working for a tip
don't paint your lips...

don't bite, I'm baiting you
don't cry cuz they want you to
mama, I'm sleeping it off
worn thin from red lights and scotch
how I hate being cross
but you should hold your booze

please don't drop bombs on me
I beg of thee
just leave me in peace
I have cold, kind, and lemon eyes
oh, lemon eyes, oh my god

don't suck your gut so tight
don't cut your hair so nice
mama, I'm sleeping it off
worn thin from red lights and scotch
how I hate being cross
but you should hold your booze

I'm begging you
don't leave when I curse at you
mama, I'm sleeping it off
worn thin from red lights and scotch
how I hate being cross
but you should hold your booze

Johnny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It's somethin' you did
God knows when
But you're doin' it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin' for a new friend
The man in the coon-skin cap
In the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten

Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin' that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phone's tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the D. A.
Look out kid
Don't matter what you did
Walk on your tip toes
Don't try "No Doz"
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows

Get sick, get well
Hang around a ink well
Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin' to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write braille
Get jailed, jump bail
Join the army, if you fail
Look out kid
You're gonna get hit
But users, cheaters
Six-time losers
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin' for a new fool
Don't follow leaders
Watch the parkin' meters

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don't steal, don't lift
Twenty years of schoolin'
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don't wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don't wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles

Change Is Now
By Chris Hillman & Roger McGuinn

Change is now, change is now
Things that seemed to be solid are not
All is now, all is now
The time that we have to live

Gather all that we can
Keep in harmony with love's sweet plan

Truth is real, truth is real
That which is not real does not exist
In and out roundabout
Dance to the day when fear it is gone

Gather all that we can
Keep in harmony with love's sweet plan

Change is now, change is now
Things that seemed to be solid are not
In and out roundabout
Dance to the day when fear it is gone
Fear it is gone
Fear it is gone

Stop
Ryan Adams and The Cardinals

I know a sickness so ancient and cross
No crucifix could ever fix enough
In the basement of a church, these people, they talk
There is a line
That must be walked
If you wanna make it stop
Then stop

I know a place where the future is denied
I know a hand that twitches inside
For some of us the glass is filled with lights
But if the honey makes you sick,
honey, there is a line
That must be walked if you wanna make it stop
Then stop
Stop

Lie down
You don't have to talk
Slow down
Breathe
Stop
Slow down
It's not your fault
Look around, there's so many of us
So many of us
You are not alone
Ever
Ever
Ever

Stop

Call in the backup and the backup comes
Nobody can help you if you won't
Inside your chest your heart is just hurt
Behind your eyes a need replaced a want

I know a sickness so ancient and cross
A crucifix can never fix enough
I know a past when the future is lost
I know of a line that must be walked

There is a darkness and there is a light
And there is a choice.
For a balance to be made every night
A weakness must be found
If you want it to stop
Stop
Stop
Nobody helps a liar.
