Check out her new album, Paradise Hotel, at http://www.redhouserecords.com/ (You have to hit the album cover to get to the page where you can listen to the songs.) I especially like Calm Before The Storm, with Shawn Colvin on harmony vocals.

I second that. Eliza puts on a great show filled with great music and lost of funny stories.

War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn to live together in peace by killing each other's children.

Man of God
Eliza Gilkyson

The cowboy came from out of the west
With his snakeskin boots and his bulletproof vest
Gang of goons and his big war chest
Fortunate son, he was doubly blessed
Corporate cronies and the chiefs of staff
Bowing to the image of the golden calf
Startin' up wars in the name of God's son
Gonna blow us all the way to kingdom come

Man of God, man of God
That ain't the teachings of a man of God
Man of God, man of God
That ain't the preachings of a man of God

Coalition of the fearful and the judgmental
Patricians, politicians, and the fundamentals
You never have to tell them how the money's spent
You never have to tell them where their freedom went
Homophobes in the high command
Waitin' for the rapture like it's Disneyland
Hide all the bodies from out of view
Channel all the treasures to the chosen few

Man of God, man of God
That ain't the teachings of a man of God
Man of God, man of God
That ain't the preachings of a man of God

If I could, I surely would
Stand on the rock where Moses stood
Look out people, now we're gionna get fleeced
By a wolf masquerading as a man of peace

Jesus said, Blessed are the meek
Jesus said, You gotta turn the other cheek
Jesus said, Help the poor and the weak
If he lived today he'd be a liberal freak!
All the money changers would be out in the street
Weepin' and wailin' and gnashin' their teeth
Me, I'm waitin' on the reckoning day
When the whole world gonna rise up and say

Man of God, man of God
That ain't the teachings of a man of God
Man of God, man of God
That ain't the preachings of a man of God

I'm sure I don't need to say 'enjoy the show' Keith, Eliza will see to that :)

Will you be taping?

KEITH - you're gonna see Eliza AND Carrie??? I'm so jealous. Carrie is wonderful...I caught her at Eddie's Attic during an open-mic a few years ago, and I was blown away. She's sorta Joni-ish...the kind of folk music you listen to on a rainy day with a cup of tea. She's sooo good. And Eliza, well, yeah. Goes without saying. :)

Enjoy the show, ya lucky bastard, ;)

Won't be going after all. One of my managers who's barely six months pregnant went into the hospital last night with a high fever and early contractions. Any positive thoughts y'all care to send for her well-being and that of her baby are much appreciated.

You can expect me to be pretty scarce around here for a while, seeing how I have no one fully trained to back her up yet. I may have to cancel my trip to Austin next week too.

I forgot how much I like Eliza's music. I was listening to Land of Milk and Honey while outside walking with my dog, and just loved it (again).
