Regina Spektor??

Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

I've listened to Begin to Hope three times and I'm absolutely in love with it! She's got it all....clever lyrics, a wonderful voice, good production and fresh, innovative songs that drive you crazy cause you can't stop humming them! ...haven't gotten to Soviet Kitsch yet.

thanks alot Arlene!

By the way, Elise, I love many of the songs on Soviet Kitsch just as much as those on Begin to Hope....like Chemo Limo, Us, Carbon Monoxide....the production doesn't bother me that much. I just love the way she tells a story, and I love the sound of her voice.

Finally bought Begin to Hope, and wow is it amazing. Spektor is one of the most talented artists I've heard in a long time.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.

Don't think I ever heard a song by her until today.
I picked up "Instant Karma/Save Darfur" at work yesterday and her performance of "Real Love" really stood out to me. Excellent!

Thanks to an undisclosed source I have had Far since last Thursday. It's a bit too mainstream for me. My favorite is "Machine."

edit: I'm on my 4th or 5th listen and "Human of the Year" is amaaaazing. Her voice is absolutely perfect.

I recently stumbled on 11:11, her 2001 album, and have been obsessed with that one lately.

Carly, when you say mainstream, do you mean the production, or what? Would love to hear more.

The production, yes, a little bit...especially on the first three or four songs. I like raw-zany-batty-genius Regina and it seems like she toned it down quite a bit for Far. I like Far a lot more than Begin to Hope (which is my least-favorite Regina album).
