My favorite new artist of 2004, and the second best album of the year. I just started a fansite for her at www.chrispureka.net. If you haven't heard her, here are some audio clips from her official site. She is awesome.

"Burning Bridges"

"Silo Song"

"Porch Songs"

I've got trust in nothing, see, I lost it by and by
but I've got something shining somewhere

A long-ass time ago, I found Chris Pureka on CD Baby somehow, and I listened to some clips and like them a whooooole lot. And so that long-ass amount of time went by and I forgot who she was, her name, her CD title, all of the stuff you have to know to track down an artist, and now here she is. I'm so excited. I'm gonna buy her CD. Thanks for posting this, Penguin.

And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void
That lies quiet in offering to thee

Yay, more Chris fans. :D

She is VERY awesome. Penguin and I both put songs of hers on our mixes. So if you liked, be sure you buy the whole album(s). She's only got 2 out there (and one's a demo EP) but holy cow, they're fantastic. Driving North is such a mature, multifaceted piece of work. She's miles ahead of her years.

She's going places, so be sure you go with her,

I do the same thing.... I bunch my orders, especially because it costs so much postage from here. And I'm gonna order: Chris Pureka and the waifs, and Antje if its available. I've heard her stuff since Roy first mentioned her, and kept meaning to order it because I LOVE what I hear online. And the song "Cynical" on Elise's mix is awesome.

Hey, you. Yeah, you who hasn't bought Driving North yet. What is your problem, anyway?

Penguin's not kidding around you guys. This is some amazing music. I'm starting to think she may turn into my favorite songwriter since Patty. That would give me a trifecta. Joni, Patty, and Chris. She's a wonderful guitar player too.

Ain't that the truth. Get your asses over to CD Baby and make the purchase. It'll be among the best 15 bucks you ever spend.

Quit screwin' around and buy her stuff,

I've gone on about Chris enough I guess, but I'll say it again... I can't stop listening to this album, the lyrics are amazing, her voice is unbelievable. Don't walk, RUN to get Driving North.

I'm sorry, this is a shameless plug, but I have to say it. Chris would want me to.

If you like Chris's music, there's a helluva good chance you will also like Melissa Ferrick. She is one of Chris's main influences; they toured together for a couple of dates in January (I couldn't go, and I'm still so upset about it that when I think about it I want to cry). There's a thread here on this board, and her website is also super-informative. Ask me if you want info. Or you could listen to clips at CD Baby, which has her CD The Other Side available.

Any chance to plug my wonderful Melissa,
~Elise

I'm not going to stop bumping this topic until every single one of you has a copy of Driving North. What the HELL are you waiting for?
