Chris Pureka

Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

Matt sent me "Unwelcome" and "Burning Bridges" some time ago and I sort of forgot about them, but recently I've been strangely drawn back to them, listening to them over and over. They're such beautiful songs. I must hear more Chris Pureka.

And she does Wagon Wheel? Damn. Ever since I heard the Old Crow Medicine Show version, I've loved that song. Is it on one of her CDs?

Yaaaaay! "Wagon Wheel" isn't on any album, unfortunately, but I think you'd be quite pleased with her Driving North CD.

I went to the Chris Pureka show tonight. It was a very very good show. The venue was pretty small, and had good sound. The person opening for her was quite good as well. She did between 9-11 songs (I cant remember any-thing after concerts). After the show she stayed around a little, while people purchased merchandise.,the girl she was with was chatting and selling stuff. After I had bought my cd, I went up to her to she if she would sign it. She graciously did, and asked where I had her of her. I said that I had heard about her on one the Patty Griffin websites. She asked if that was the same board as Gillian, penguin and matt Morrow and I said yes, she remembered you guys really well and was glad you were recommending her. She was really grateful to all the people on the this board for recommending her. We talked about Patty Griffin for a little, she said she was a. She was really nice to every-one, she even talked with my little sister who ended up coming to the show as well. Any who, it was a great show, and now i'm hooked on her music too. She played alot of songs from her current cd, 2 new ones and at least 1 from her old cd. She didn't mention all the titles of her songs though, and I cant remember all of the ones she did say, but a few were...

Burning Bridges
Silo Song
3 A.M.
Unwelcome
Porch Songs

TWO new songs? I'm sure "Come Back Home" was one of them, but was there really another? Not a cover? Please tell!

I know for sure she said one of the songs was new, and I could have sworn she said the same about another one. I cant be abosutely positive about the second, but I think she did.

Saw the show tonight at the Cave in Chapel Hill...got to see Heather (who is so funny and awesome, we had a whole lotta laughs), and Christin (tall and really good-looking, quite the Amazon), Brianna Lane (whose new CD is finally coming out next week, YAY), and of course Chris herself...darling beyond words, as usual. :) She played a really short set for some reason; that was the only disappointing thing. She got a LOT of volume out of her voice - sometimes I forget what an instrument she's got there, because the album is so intimate it sounds like she's singing just for you, so it's pretty fuckin' cool to hear her belting it out. Saaaaaaaaaang it, girl.

She did:

Unwelcome
Silo Song
Hold It Together
Driving North
Burning Bridges
Afterall
Cynical
Porch Songs

I wanted to hear the new song, but despite the enthusiastic applause she didn't come back for an encore. Oh well. It gave us more time to talk afterwards. :) Oh, penguin - I got my photo with Chris for the website. Hehe. No more black square where my face should be. :P

Happy,
~Elise

Check out the cute photo!

Me, Chris, and Heather

Wow, that pic actually came out really well. I don't look demented, and Chris and Heather look adorable.

More pix to come soon,
~Elise

(edited to add that that is not MY photo, it's from Heather's camera. I'll have my pix in a few days.)

I, for one, cannot wait, either.

For those of you in the Boston area, Chris is going to be playing a great show at the end of the month:

August 25th
The Paradise Lounge in Boston
EARLY SHOW
7PM
with MARK GEARY

If you're near Boston, and haven't had a chance to check out Chris' music yet, do yourself a favor, and take this opportunity! You won't regret it. I also hear that Mark Geary is fabulous... Chris is a huge fan and is really excited to be doing this show with him.
