Anyone who will be coming to see Ana next weekend at the Living Room in NYC should know that: THE FABULOUS MARK ERELLI will be playing the room an hour before she does. (I will be so lucky to see him the next night at Club Passim along with our Mis and Karen!)

Happytimes. :D

PRESS RELEASE: June 19, 2007

The Mountain Stage NewSong Contest
‘Where Great Artists Are Discovered’

Ana Egge Edges Other Talented Finalists to Win the Northeast Regional Round at Joe’s Pub.

New York. In addition to being Father’s Day, this past Sunday also marked the launch of NewSong’s seven city regional-round tour of the Sixth Annual Mountain Stage NewSong Contest. The NewSong Northeast Regional Competition began with featured mini-sets from ten of the region’s most talented performing songwriters. In the end, Ana Egge, a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Austin songsmith and performer, took the top honor.

Joe’s Pub, one of New York City’s most celebrated and in-demand showcases for live music and performance, hosted the event. In addition to presenting international stars, Joe’s Pub’s well-deserved reputation for showcasing up-and-coming musicians across a variety of disciplines provided the ideal venue for this multi-genre showcase of emerging performing songwriters.

As the Northeast Regional Winner, Egge—described by alt-country diva Lucinda Williams as “the folk Nina Simone” —advances to the international contest finals to be held on September 22 as part of the River to River Festival® (www.rivertorivernyc.com). “This is my favorite contest I've ever been a part of,” stated Ms. Egge. “From the beginning there was a real effort made to bring us all together as a community rather than pitting us against each other. Although the level of songwriters was very high, and the competition was certainly a reality, it never felt bad in that way.”

Now in its sixth year, the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is one of the nation’s premier showcases for performing songwriters across all genres of music. Gar Ragland, the founder and director of NewSong and a producer and musician himself, says “the goals of the competition are to foster community among independent artists, to identify the truly exceptional talent in this community, and to provide high-profile performance opportunities in an ongoing effort to introduce our artists and their music to a much broader audience.”

Other live regional rounds in this summer’s annual competition will be hosted in cities across North America, including Austin, Boston, Toronto, Atlanta and Washington, DC.

Now in its sixth year, the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is one of the nation’s premier showcases of emerging performing songwriters across all genres of music. A total of 12 finalists will be chosen to perform in the international contest finals in New York City––seven of them coming from the regional rounds held across the country. The contest features cash and other prizes and one of five winners will earn an appearance on a worldwide broadcast of the prestigious “Mountain Stage” radio show.

Winners and other contest standouts will also be invited to participate in future NewSong productions in locations throughout the country and will be candidates for future releases on the NewSong Recordings label. Non-winning contestants will also be considered for future “Mountain Stage” appearances.

Deadline for submitting songs to the contest’s General Round is July 25. For full rules and guidelines, see www.mountainstagenewsongcontest.com.

The contest is open to all genres of music, reflecting the diversity of styles and performers on “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce,” now in its 25th year. The acclaimed show, heard on radio and TV around the globe, presents acts ranging from traditional roots, blues and country, to avant-garde rock, world beat, jazz and beyond. The show has featured more than two thousand artists since 1983. A short list of those who made their national radio debut on the program include R.E.M., Barenaked Ladies, Ryan Welch, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Alison Krauss and many other notable acts.

I'm really glad to see Ana Egge fans around here. I think it's the only board I know of Ana Egge fans. I share your taste, good people.

And this board also talks of several other singer songwriters I really like, and nobody talks about anywhere else, or not much.
