The Wailin' Jennys

Postby Turk » Thu Jan 04, 2007 4:58 am

My brother turned me on to these ladies recently. Firecracker is their latest release, I believe. I don't really want to compare them to the DChicks but there is a vague resemblance but they are definately of their own design. Beautiful harmonies and songs that touch the spirit with the right amount of folksy root-based soul that seems to flow naturally.

Like bivester, I'm addicted to chick singers and this group is the latest drug of choice for my aural afflictions.

You can hear an interview and a few songs at http://www.folkalley.com/

Also check out the Nanci Griffith interview there if you so desire.

Peace

Good call Turk. I'm surprised they've not been mentioned here before.

I've resisted the impulse to pull up links to my Who Are You Listening To and Who Are You Going to See Play posts  but I will add that as good as they are on a recording-- they're even better as live performers.

Okay, I've been listening to the full concert by the Jennys "Live at Folk Alley"

They do a version of "Bring Me A Little Water Sylvie" and Neil's "Old Man" that kicks major ass.

Love.

You have to register but it's no big deal.

eta: OH MY GOD
They do "Calling All Angels" on this show.

I've died thrice.

hey all,

so, i keep wanting to post. we had one of the wailin jennys stay with us when they played in boston. annabelle chvostek is a friend of my roommate, and was an absolute dream to hang with.

we all went to the show and thought it was fun. i honestly prefer annabelle's songs to the other's... and her voice and playing.

i have listened to the jennys most recent record.. but not that sold on it.

i do love this youtube video of my roommate and annabelle though!

Is Rose your roommate?
I love her. I've been lurking on (Rose's) thread and watching the recommended videos.

I DO love the Jennys as well.

Wai...wai...wait a minute. Rose Polenzani is your ROOMMATE????

HOW UNBELIEVABLY COOL IS THAT???

Have you met her brother? My brother and sister-in-law are incredibly big fans of his.

And doesn't it violate the rules of Yahtzee to list your roommate in one of your squares?

I loved her from way back, I'll have you know. And it shows you how good she really is that I could hold her in such high esteem knowing so much about her. He he.

But no, I have not met her brother. I would have had I been at that NYC show that I missed a little while ago.

Hehe. I forget that people don't always know the minutiae of our lives. P.S. Rose is fun to play Super Mario Bros with.

EDIT: To keep this about the Jennys, I went to that show with Nic at Passim and was pretty bored. I dunno...
