"Say It Right" -- Nelly Furtado

Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me
No, you don't mean nothing at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh, you could mean everything to me

"Early Winter" -- Gwen Stefani

It's sad -- the map of the world is on you
The moon gravitates around you
The seasons escape you
And I always was one for crying
I always was one for tears
No, I never was one for lying
You lied to me all these years
"Sometimes I think the world has gone completely mad. And then I think -- ah, who cares? And then I think -- hey, what's for supper?" -- Jack Handey.

Jill Sobule--The Rapture

If you like Jill at all, you have to hear this song. Actually, you have to hear it even if you don't like her! It's really funny and has a great melody. Why can't this be a smash single on the radio???

Anyway, you can listen or download it for free. Just go to www.jillsobule.com, click on the music note, and then you'll see download music on the right.

Any song that can cunningly include L Ron Hubbard in its lyrics has to be amazing!

Love And War and A Man/Me/Then Jim by Rilo Kiley. The whole album is brilliant, but I always have to play those two songs over again.
I don't know nothing except change will come

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Stupid shit, silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.
Learn to swim.
Learn to swim.

Mom is going to fix it all soon,
Mom is coming round to put it back
the way it oughtta be...

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all these gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.
Nobody helps a liar.

My song crush is Ryan Adams' I Taught Myself How To Grow Old. And my friend Miranda saw him at Red Rocks, CO, last night and called me so I could hear it. :D

Currently bingeing on "Hitchcock Blonde" by Paul Melancon, from his album Camera Obscura.

It's just so catchy!

Actually, I saw the movie Beautiful Thing over the weekend and really enjoyed both it and the soundtrack (which is mostly Cass). Alas, neither seem to be available in Halifax, so I ordered the DVD and a Mama Cass collection CD.

I'd be so confused, if I were a complete stranger who happened to stumble upon the list of things I've ordered from Amazon... Mama Cass, Beautiful Thing, Battlestar Galactica, Patty Griffin, Buffy, True Lies... it just gets weirder and weirder...
