Favorite Albums of 2007???

Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

While I wouldn't put either album at the very top of my lists for these two artists, FTR I don't have any reservations at all rating Children Running Through and The Trumpet Child as glorious releases. They're easily the two most listened-to albums among my purchases this year. Lucinda's and Cowboy Junkies' latest albums were a bit of a disappointment to me, however. Both have lots of good moments but also some songs I really can't listen to.

Just a word about the OtR album... I agree that it doesn't really sound like the stuff I had originally fallen in love with from them. But, for whatever reason (maybe the timing was just right for me), I love love love it. It's still stuck in my cd player in the car and is all I listen to (I've only had it for a couple of weeks or so).

Also, I find it interesting that Brandi Carlile's name didn't show up on more lists. I wonder what that's about, since she's pretty well-regarded here. (Personally, I didn't listen to it much, I'm not really sure why - probably timing again).

Brandi Carlisle leaves me cold for some reason!

I always have trouble with top ten lists cause that assumes you know way more than 10 releases and are choosing the best of those. However, here's a list of some CDs released this year that I enjoyed alot:

Patty Griffin's CRT
Lucinda Williams West
Krista DeTor's Cover Their Eyes (released first in Europe; released in U.S in March 2008)
Laura Veirs- Saltbreakers
Rachel Harrington's Bootleggers Daughter
Ryan Adams Easy Tiger
KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic
Lori McKenna - Unglamorous

Out of these my three tops are CRT , Krista DeTor's Cover Their Eyes and Laura Veirs, Saltbreakers. Laura is a great new discovery, as is Krista. You all REALLY should check Krista out!

No certain order:

Children Running Through - Patricia Jean
Skin and Bone - Madi Diaz
Hundred Miles or More - Alison Krauss
Upfront and Down Low - Teddy Thompson
West - Lucinda Williams
Sermon on Exposition Boulevard - Rickie Lee Jones
My Remembrance of You - Diana Jones
Easy Tiger - Ryan Adams
Between Daylight and Dark - Mary Gauthier
It's Not Big It's Large - Lyle Lovett
One Man Band - James Taylor
Unglamorous - Lori McKenna

IMO, this has been an exceptional year for new music; much of the new stuff I haven't even heard yet but know that I would like. Much of what I've listed comes from recommendations from the fine people on this site.

I just got The National's Boxer because I saw it here.
It sounds really great. Easily Top 10 of 2007 for me too.

Now, I guess I need to hear Iron and Wine and Feist.

1. The New Pornographers - Challengers
2. Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight - I LOVE this CD!!
3. Josh Ritter - Historical Conquests
4. Patty Griffin - Children Running Through
5. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger

Hmmmmmmm, I was thinking about getting that. It sounded a little melodically sparse to me, but I liked the song "Kiss."

And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid
Of the fire that propelled it to thee
And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void
That lies quiet in offering to thee
