Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

Anyone heard her version of Crazy by Gnarls Barkley? I like it very much! I'd say its just as good as the original!

I think Patty does covers well too! I don't think I've ever heard her do a bad cover...

Patty outBruces Bruce with her beautiful cover of Stolen Car. THE version of that song for me. And I think there's one of his called "Dancing In the Street" I saw on YouTube that's just great.

I also love Josh Ritter's cover of The River.

I think Linda Ronstadt has one of the most amazing voices in the history of popular music. I think it was Dolly Parton who once said, "when it comes to great female singers, there's Patsy Cline, there's Aretha Franklin, and there's Linda Ronstadt. All the rest of us are in a different league."

Having acknowledged both Ronstadt's virtuosity, and the fact that many, Many, MANY of her covers are incredibly great, there are some occasions when I think she misses the mark-- for example, on Warren Zevon's Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me and Mohommed's Radio, on Elvis Costello's Girls Talk and Party Girl, and on the Rolling Stone's Tumbling Dice. IMHO, not every voice is suitable for every song and in an odd way, her voice is just too good or full or beautiful or something for her to be able to pull off those numbers.

I was thinking about my favorite covers of all time. Here goes:

1. All Along the Watchtower- Jimi Hendrix
2. Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
3. Hurt- Johnny Cash
4. Pancho and Lefty- Emmylou Harris
5. Black Star- Gillian Welch
6. Blue Bayou- Linda Ronstadt
7. Jersey Girl- Bruce Springsteen
8. Respect- Aretha Franklin
9. Sweet Jane- Cowboy Junkies
10. Nothing Compares 2 U- Sinead O'Connor

These are some of my favorite covers, too, and I'd add "Wild Horses- The Sundays"
