3 weeks in the US, need some music (live)

Hi guys,
This spring, I'll be in the US for 3 weeks. 1 week in Chicago, 1 week in New Orleans, and 1 week in San Fransisco / Bay Area and LA.
We always love to go and see some live shows when we are abroad. One of my greatest travel memories is seeing the Indigo Girls play in Asheville, North Carolina a couple of years ago.
BUT, it can be hard to figure out where to go and when to buy tickets. So I'm asking your advice: is there something like a website, or online publication that lists shows and concerts in venues of different sizes all over the US? Or maybe just for specific cities? Wheren you can select dates and see what's on?
if not, could you recommend some venues in the cities I've mentioned that are worth checking out (they can be really small venues where unknown singer-songwriters are playing, don't have to be arenas where major acts perform).
P.S. New Orleans is the least of my worries, we'll be staying with friends there and I'm sure they'll be able to point us to where the good music is (which seems to be easy to find there anyway!)
Thanks in advance.
Klary
