Sorry but I have to break with tradition and say fuck this RIP shit.

I just heard that Dobie Gray passed away yesterday after battling cancer.

Condolences to his friends and loved ones obviously but I think it would be much better to have a thread where we can celebrate the lives of artists whose music has brought us joy.

How can you not be happy when you hear this song Drift away

Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong

Dobie Gray... I salute you sir

Ian looks for the light through the pourin' rain... and he's correct.

Doby made that song a revered classic. Let's celebrate.

Yes, this death sucks like all the others.

I always loved Dobie's version Loving Arms as well.

Turk, you're still here! ~YaY~ I see a few board members on facebook on occasion, but not you ... so a great big happy hello to you!

Back on topic: Give me the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away ....

It was a sad day -- losing someone who influenced so many with ONE song. :( Yes, he had some other great stuff, but the way this ONE song touched and influenced so many, from one generation to the next, was and remains a powerful contribution to music ... and life.
