Lori McKenna

Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

FYI. A longish article/interview with Lori McKenna on the Country Standard Time web site: http://www.countrystandardtime.com/d/ar ... ri_McKenna
"You've got to sing like you don't need the money, love like you'll never get hurt. You've got to dance like no one is watching. It's gotta come from the heart, if you want it to work."
~Susannah Clark

"Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels." ~Molly Ivins

"If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner."

Great article, Arlene! Lots of good detail in there about her early days that I didn't know.

marybeth wrote:I really like the new album. I especially like: I Know You, Your Next Lover, Written Permission, Leaving This Life, Survive. I agree the "peanutbutter" line and others like it show the marks of co-writers on "Unglamorous". I think Lori writes better than that. I really like the new arrangement of Falter. All in all, I'm happy with it, her great songwriting skills still come through!

I agree with you, MB, on your song selections. I can't stop listening to Falter and Your Next Lover. The songwriting is superb overall. I think of Falter as Lori's "Tony" - (thank you ScottG!).

I received Unglamorous for my bday this past weekend from my brother. Along with our older brother, the three of us experienced it together and loved it. What's really strange is that my older brother never cared for female singers (don't ask me why - I always thought it was a pretty fucked up way of thinking). It was about 10 or so years ago that my younger brother Dave and I started working on him and he gradually saw the light of musical female greatness. Jim's world is much brighter because of it and yes, he is a devout PattyFan now and was blown away at his first Patty concert we took him to.

Back on topic...
Here's a video that you've all probably seen but I think it's great. It's available for download for 7 days and is 20.5 MB wmv.

Lori live performing "Pour."

Just click away the annoying first Comcast ad page IF it pops up before the DL page.

Ditto. Great to see those. God, I love her music. How could anyone not love her, even if they don't like her style? (That was a rhetorical question. ;-)

The more I listen to Unglamorous, the more it sounds like it coulda been a collaboration between the Dixie Chicks and Patty Loveless - with a more rockish edge. I guess it's the smooth, lavish production and of course, Lori's vocals.

Other than...
"Unglamorous"
"Drinkin' Problem"
"Written Permission"
...this is a stellar record, IMO.
