I'd guess *fairly* soon (fairly being a relative term since we're talking about Damien Rice here). He's going out on tour with Fiona Apple this summer and he's got a different band going with him, so people are assuming he's going to be playing new stuff. Whether he's recorded any of that stuff yet or not... who knows.

I got an email awhile back with this news and I was jumping up and down. Can't wait to see the tracklist.

Now he just needs to get his ass back to Seattle.

"Till the Sun Turns Black" is supposed to be released on Aug. 29th.

I read the tracklist from a rough copy, so I don't know if it's completely accurate but here is what is was:

1. Be Here Now
2. Empty
3. Barfly
4. Three More Days
5. Can I Stay?
6. You Can Bring Me Flowers
7. Gone Away From Me (used to be Life Is Long)
8. Lesson Learned
9. instrumental
10. Till The Sun Turns Black
11. Coda

If the tracklist is correct, I am so happy that "Lesson Learned" is on it, that has become one of my favorite songs.

On the other hand, there are a few missing I was hoping to see, most importantly "Still Can't Feel the Gin". And "You Should Belong To Me" and "I Can Get High" and "Danielle" and "Heaven Is A Honkytonk". I had pretty muched convinced myself all of those songs would be on the album.

On the brighter side, Ray is coming back to Seattle in October. YAY!

Till the Sun Turns Black is now available for pre-order at his MusicToday store.

There is a promotion and a contest...when you preorder, you are entered to win handwritten signed lyrics to one of the songs, you receive a download of a Soundcheck Sampler (which features a track from Ray's Live at Bonnarroo EP), and you receive a free limited edition poster. Of course the shipping is exorbitant, but seeing as it's Ray, I'm happy to pay it.

The first 250 orders also got an autographed cd but it appears those have already gone. Oh well.

exciting,
~Elise

Man, poor Ray.

He is having a hard time with the tour. Supposedly he threw a guitar and walked off the first or second night. He is teamed with Guster (an odd match, I think) and they are playing equal sets but Guster's audience, who are notorious assholes, think he is the opening act.

I don't know what the people who put this together were thinking.

Now I don't want to go when they come to Seattle. All the reviews I have read make me not want to chance it.

If anyone here see's them could you post how it went?

Maybe I'll rethink going, but I doubt it.

My friend Meghan went to the Ray/Guster show in Cary last night. I'll ask her how it went when she gets home this afternoon. I couldn't go, but I wasn't interested in seeing Guster anyway, so I figured I'd just wait for a show where Ray was the only main event.

At Kelly Clarkson's June 30th concert (which I so happily attended :D ), she did a cover of one of Ray L.'s songs. I didn't catch the name -- something to do with "shelter" -- but she sang it beautifully. I've never heard the original version, but apparently Kelly is a huge fan!

Thanks Elise, please do ask her :D
I agree with you, I would rather see Ray again by himself.

Fred,

The song is "Shelter" she did it for a Hurricane Katrina benefit and has since put it in her shows. She does a very nice job, I think. I have a ton more respect for her since learning she was a big fan of Ray and Patty. Smart girl.

You should check him out, Fred. He's amazing!

Megs said he was great, the audience was mostly there for him so he was enjoying himself. The only thing she said annoyed him was when people were yelling out requests for him to sing "Crazy." (Which he didn't play.) So looks like everything was fine...maybe the guitar-throwing episode was just a bad night? She said he played everything except "Hannah" from Trouble, and a few songs from the new record... Til the Sun Turns Black, 3 More Days, blah blah.

I'm glad it was a good show; Megs had a great time. But I still wouldn't spring upwards of 40 bucks to see Ray with Guster. /shrug/ Maybe next solo tour.

Thanks, Elise. Although, I don't really have a choice to see him or not because he has quit the tour or atleast the second leg. And get this, they have replaced him with Nada Surf. WTF?

I feel terrible for him. He is obviously going through a rough time.

At the Nashville show towards the end of his set a guy was laughing and he responded;

"We have a fuck in the audience. You must think the blues are funny. I suppose you'd rather be at home drinking beers, waiting for your children to get old enough to rape."

Then he walked off.

Ray has said in the past he could stop making music at any time, his recent behavior makes me think he is totally over doing this for a living.
