Who's going to "ignore" me?

This is in response to Tonto Yokum's desire to have an "ignore" feature on this site. My contention is that this a repugnant feature that only feeds into the already existant insecurity of newbies and "outsiders. In addition it will intimidate posters into posting only "board friendly" banter. There are a multitude of people on this board that state opinions which I do not embrace. But I read every one of their posts. I can choose to not read them. My position is that this is an offensive element.

If you are going to block me...state here. 2 votes gets me gone.

I'm blocking everybody so I can have this beautiful place all to myself!
Oh, OK so I'll keep a few friends. But, just the kids I like...

...like kid nash.ourkid.kidsandina.kidgillian.kidwaffles.kidmarybeth.kidmwm.kidpenguin.kidmelissa.kidfoolonfire.kidrob.kidsweet.kidaltcountryguy.kid.......

I doubt I will ever block anyone. I don't like censorship or or the threat of censorship. That said, I think the "ignore list" is fairly benign. At least it's in the hands of the individual user. Of course, I think its pretty sad when someone blasts somone else then puts them on ignore, effectively giving them no chance to respond.

I have decided to put together an "ignore" list. If you would like to know if you are on it, post here. Unlike Tonto Yoder and Gillian, I will be glad to tell you to your face..."Your comments are not welcome in my world".

Um, well if I was on it and I posted here, how would you know? I'd be ignored.

At any rate, I have to suspect that I am on it simply because I have never won a Kid Nashville award. :(

At long last... Thank you. I'm so honored. I'd like to thank the various websites that have allowed me to use their clip art....and um, the "please take your seat" music is playing so my "speech" time is up. Thank you.

.....

It's still clear when an ignored poster makes a post, but the text of that post is replaced by
"Ignored poster's moniker is on your Ignore List."
Anyone who would contemplate adding a member to an Ignore List is probably already "ignoring" that member by scrolling past that member's posts.

I used to play a game called Anarchy Online. A fellow who posted frequently on the AO message boards put some very foul language in his signature in large, red letters. When I was browsing at work, I preferred not to have that word screaming from my monitor, so I put him on my ignore list.

It also keeps nastygrams out of your mailbox, which I think is a perfectly valid reason to use it.

At any rate...you know, you just log out and then there is no ignore list. I don't believe that anyone's posts will go unread.
