I host the (unofficial) chat rooms for the Cowboy Junkies and Over the Rhine forums at my portal site www.rcltd.org , and boy do we have fun there! Is there a typical evening/time that PattyNet folks get together to yak here, or is it mostly when Sandi has been drinking?
I don't know nothing except change will come

The chatroom has been pretty slow in the last couple weeks. I've actually been thinking we should set up a couple predetermined times to get the activity going again. People, remember how much fun we've had in chat? Especially when we get big groups going. What does everyone thinK?

I would love that. Especially if one of those predetermined times is a time when we over in Europe are awake, so we can join in!

Wow.
Quit staring at me.
Gosh, haven't you EVER seen alcohol before?
Can't a girl have a little fun sometimes?
Really, quit staring!
So anyway, if we scheduled the chat session around my drinking pattern we would never leave.....I mean, we would rarely be chatting.
So, we should probably just agree on a scheduled time that is good for people.
I'm pretty open to anytime.
PS: Uh, Smit......thanks for the help! So kind of you to offer.

This is just a thought, but I wonder if the "Who's Chatting" feature is deterring people from going into chat. I mean, when I check that and see that penguin.is.on.the.phone ..... I don't go in.
Well, sometimes I do and try to cause a big scene with sound effects and emoticons until I get his attention.....but sometimes it's just not worth all that effort, you know?

I think just seeing "penguin..." in general keeps most people out.

Um, are you suggesting that penguin's being there is deterring you, Sandi?
Really, I think people just need to change their frame of mind. Instead going away because "nobody" is there, why not go in and see who shows up?
It's time for a chat revolution! Newbies, don't be afraid to check out chat as well!

I find that if I enter chat and sit a while, someone usually shows up fairly quick. gillian wrote:It's time for a chat revolution! Newbies, don't be afraid to check out chat as well!
That's right, everyone is welcome. We're a friendly bunch. I don't think I've never seen any problems in chat yet. Don't get discouraged if no one is talking, sometimes its just quiet. So, jump right in and get to know the "PattyChatters". If you just want to listen, thats cool too.

I also find that using the "Chat Now" thread in the Watercooler is a good way to let people know you're in there and are hoping others come in. Everytime I post to that thread, someone comes in, which is simply exciting - even if it is just penguin who joins me.

I wanna chat! But I admit I've given up a few times when I went in and nobody was there. But if it got going again, I'm all for it.
Chats were my occassional guilty Sunday evening pleasure. Frankly, for me there are some SERIOUS choices involved when it comes to chat. It was usually like..."honey, come to bed!"...."honey? Are you ONLINE again? What ARE you chuckling about?"

Marybeth, I get the exact same thing from my wife.
She's always asking "what's so funny?"
I'd like to try a Sunday afternoon chat sometime.
Sunday's are usually insanely busy for me but if that's our best chance to get together with our European buddies, then I'll just have to make time.
See Ya in Patty Chat.

I'm game for a more set time. With my current schedule and the fact that my computer at work won't let me enter the chat room, I haven't been able to chat for awhile and I miss you guys. The fact at AZ doesn't participate in day light savings never helps either and many times I'll look to see who's in on the weekends and I'll realize, wow, it's 3am on the east coast! So at least a general window would be nice to work with, even if we set up a couple of them for the week for whoever is available, since we are on such different schedules.
It's the same old thirst for more
Until they put you in the dirt

Of a door that I kept locked
But I decorate the threshold
Just in case you knocked
