Joan does Patty but not Mary

Postby sfboy » Wed Jul 02, 2014 1:40 am

I went to see the Indigo Girls and Joan Baez tonight and Joan did a Patty cover, but it wasn't Mary, which she has recorded. Anyone want to guess what it was WITHOUT GOOGLING IT :) :D

Up to the Mountain?
If I died, he'd hear about it, eventually.

Another good guess. Do you want a hint? And how come no one else is curious? :) :)

I'll guess Moses. If that's wrong, give me a hint.

It wasn't Moses, it wasn't Wild Old Dog, but it was from American Kid. :)

OOH, OOH, Mr. Kotter. Mr. Kotter. I know, I know!

Joan must have done the same song at The Greek Theater in LA a couple days later.

Obviously, clicking the link rules out eligibility for Kevin's million dollar challenge.

No they didn't. The IG's opened and started EXACTLY at the time specified. Luckily we were on time. They did a pretty long set. Then there was a short break and the Joan came out and also did a complete set. Then they all came on stage and did 3 songs. One was one of Emily's songs. I think it was Our Deliverance. Then they did two more songs. One was an old folk tune. The one that goes "But the river's wide and I can't swim over". I don't know the name. It's not Carickfergus, which Joan recorded and which borrows part of that song. The finale The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down, I think. :)

I was ecstatic that she did it, but to be honest, as with most Patty covers, the original is just so much better. :)

Thanks.
In case anyone's interested, the Baez/ Indigo Girls encore from The Greek Theater is included in the following:

https://app.box.com/s/ugtm35yvczji4ohg5bxs

Joan's Patty cover is in there too.
