Three Girls at the Orpheum (Boston, MA - 02/22/09)

Postby Browncoat » Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:10 pm

Went to the Three Girls show at The Orpheum tonight. The girls all sounded great, though the audience seemed ridiculously obnoxious.

I never write down setlists, so I can't tell you much, except that they opened with "To Know Him is to Love Him" and closed with "We Shall All Be Reunited."

Patty's set included (probably not in order):

Wade in the Water
I'm Gonna Miss You When You're Gone
Little God (I was really excited to hear this, though I honestly think it doesn't quite work as an acoustic song)
Rain
The Last Time I Ever See Your Face (not sure of title - the song from her commencement address, last summer)
Love Throw a Line

It's entirely possible that I forgot one, but I think that was it.

All in all, it was a good show... I just wish the audience had been less chatty, as the girls described it.

Wish I'd known you were going Adam, would've liked to say hello!

FTR Patty also played I Flew Over Our House Tonight (a Tom T. Hall cover).

I thought Little God was great myself, although the solo acoustic arrangement certainly lacked some of the power of the Silver Bell recording.

If you thought the audience was obnoxious tonight, you should have been there for Ryan Adams the night before!

Yeah, I didn't realize you'd be there - next time, for sure!

I did manage to catch a short glimpse of our very own Nicole. Unfortunately, we got separated in the crowd, before I had a chance to say hello. So, "Hello!"

I can't believe I forgot about the Tom T. Hall cover - I really loved it!

Also kinda wish I'd known Ryan Adams was playing. I know he's infamously hit-or-miss, but I would've liked to catch a show, before he goes off the radar.

Alas, I'm headed off to New York tomorrow afternoon. But I'm sure I'll be back in the area, before too long! I can't go too long without my Boston fix.

As it is, I've still only actually *met* one other Pattynet member (Mr. Matthew Haven), so I've got some catching up to do. :)

Poor KarenL has been unable to log into PattyNet, so I'm posting this on her behalf:

I had a wonderful time with Keith, Nicole, and John Higgins at the Boston show. The night went by so quickly. I think this is the best Patty's ever sounded (Keith to me: You always say that! :-) ). The Three Girls sounded beautiful, and Emmylou is striking and has such stage presence. Patty had some crazy loud and long applause after the Mavis Staples cover and Rain (in tribute to the pouring rain outside that day). I was so happy to hear Little God. It's very haunting when it's played acoustically. I think Buddy's electric guitar would have made a nice addition... I think the song is better suited for electric. I do hope Buddy is doing well. I thought the audience was the most enthusiastic I've seen in a long time (I didn't think the loud, drunk people were too bad... the girls made a few comments which I thought quieted them down). Anyway, I had such a great time. Keith, I'm so glad we got to meet up for coffee a little earlier. Thanks for a great night, Keith, John, Nic, and the Three Girls :) I have to get my Pattynet password back!
