Driving

Postby this_mess » Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:12 am

I had always thought this was a pised-off ex-lover song, because I heard the lyric as "By the way, did I tell you what you did to me". I figured the character uses her pissed-offness to get her through the crappy traffic. She can't stop thinking about her sucky relationship and her sucky ex because she's stuk in the sucky traffic.

Recently, though, I went and actually read the lyric..."By the way, did I tell you what you do to me". Well doesn't that sound pretty darn romantic! The only thing that gets her through the traffic is thinking of her love waiting at the end.

Honestly, though, I liked it better as an angry fuck-you.

it would be romantic...but the

And I creep past the wreck and I think about you
Got a pain in my neck and I think about you
Got a tape in my deck, it's broken in two
Driving and driving
Driving and driving

sorta takes away any love felt in the song.

I guess I'm taking my chances
Giving up the ring, throwing in the gloves
I guess I'm taking my chances
Trading in my things For a couple wings on a little white dove
And one big love, one big love

Well, in the do version, I think those could be interpreted as obstacles she has to overcome to get back home to him.

In the did version, I think those corroborate the anger quite well. 8)

on Silver Bell, she's saying "did to me."

See I never thought of it as an ex lover song I always thought of it as a crappy relationship that she was currently in and she wants to leave but doesn't have the nerve (I think of jumping the skyway but I don't have the nerve). And driving through the wreck she's thinking about her crappy relationship and thinking out loud.

So in short she's a woman in a relationship who wants to leave the shitty relationship and jump the skyway and be free of the craptastic relationship but she doesn't have the nerve. Or at least thats how I see it.

I think there was a discrepancy between the PNet lyrics and the tab. I just changed the tab recently to make it the same as the lyric. So, if you had looked at the tab previous to that, that's probably where you saw it.

Or else you're visiting pg.net for all your lyric needs.

Ah, yes, when I said lyrics, I really meant the lyrics in the tab section.

Driving lyrics

Postby jmp31 » Sun Sep 13, 2009 9:07 am

If you listen to the music it's pretty clear she sings "...did I tell you what you did to me" Question is, then, was it good (and worth driving through the traffic to get to the guy) or bad (and tempting her to jump the skyway)?
