I Said to the Sky

Does everyone have this amazing Patty demo?

It is easily my favorite from the Children Running Through period.
A damn fine version of Moon Song is available also.
Just checkin'

i thought this was a don't ask, don't tell sort of situation.

i am desperate to hear patty sing ISTTS live again... though the demo
is freaking perfect as far as i am concerned.

I love this song, too. There were other songs I gladly would have traded from CRT for it to be on the actual album.
It's the same old thirst for more
Until they put you in the dirt

You saw me through a keyhole
Of a door that I kept locked
But I decorate the threshold
Just in case you knocked

I don't much like the demo myself, it's way too tame. I suspect Patty didn't either, else the song woulda been released on CRT or as a bonus track. It's absolutely killer live though, probably my favorite of all her recent songs.

Personally, I really love this song. I was pretty disappointed when it didn't make the cut and even more disappointed when a mixed version didn't make its way onto iTunes or the bonus CD.

That said - does anybody have the lyrics to this song? As much as I love what I know, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out about half of the song.

Well, This is what I think I'm hearing...

I Said to the Sky

I said to the sky
Do you want me to fly?
The sky said… “No”
“It ain’t your turn to go.”

I said to my man
Where did you go?
With a girl named Jo
Down to old Mexico

Got two babies, got no money honey
I can’t pay my note
Oh, I said to the sky
Where do you want me to go?

I cry in the night
I weep and I rain
I cry to my mother
Long long gone away
Let me lie in your arms
For one hour today
Let me lie in your arms
In your arms let me lay

I said to my low
Who don’t give me no smile
Ya give me nothing but dust all of these miles after mile
I said to my low. I’m nothing, I know.
Oh, but where in this world is a poor woman to go?

I cry in the night
I weep and I pray
I cry to my mother
Long long gone away
Let me lie in your arms
For one hour today
Let me lie in your arms
In your arms let me lay

I said to the sky
Do you want me to fly?
The sky said… “No”
Ain’t your turn to, ain’t your turn…

I said to the sky
Do you want me to fly?
The sky said… “No”
Ain’t your turn to, ain’t your turn to…

I said to the sky….

I said to the sky.

Huh? You so crazy.
Pop in the ear buds Keith and crank it!
To me the mix sounds much better that way.

i agree, scott. i love it... i mean obviously those shows where she was playing it live, rule. but, i am just so grateful to have the demo at all.
(and think it sounds awesome) of course, we can't know what patty was thinking when she kept it off the record, only i wonder if it is just that it
doesn't quite fit ... it feels like a silver bell song to me.

it has been my patty-sig on this forum for so long.... the song is
freakin' tops, mang.

I think "low" is actually blues-speak for "Lord."

The demo version is tame compared to live. On stage she cries out that chorus like some wounded animal caught in a hurricane. On the demo she sounds merely human.
