"Top of the World" Sample on Silver Bell?

Postby rtsimantel » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:50 pm

Hello Patty Fans!

I'm new here, so exuse me if this has been discussed before.

Does anyone know who is singing at the end of "Top of the World" on Silver Bell?

It sounds like a sample to me.

Any info is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Sorry... I can't answer your question although I'm sure I remember it being discussed here or at one of the other discussion groups.

I hope someone else will chip in on this one for you.

Welcome anyway and stick around.... it isn't always so quiet here.

Are you sure you're not referring to "Truth No. 2" rather than "Top of the World?" (The person singing harmony on the Silver Bell version of Truth No. 2 is Emmylou Harris.)

If I understand rts right... he/she's referring to the unintelligible french sounding babble kinda thing in the background at the end of Top of the world. It happens at about 4 minutes 10, just before the whoah oh oh's come in.
If there was a French word called auncerre, that would be what I heard repeated :)

Maybe Cinamoons could detect and translate what was being said if indeed it is French.

The mystery continues ....

I think its Patty's mother singing J'irai La Voir Un Jour. Around 5:05 right?
Although there is something between 4:30 - 4:47 of something that definitely isn't Patty's mother or anyone else?? It kind of sounds like a radio, maybe??

Maybe Silver Bell had ghosts, I mean hey its hard living with ghosts right

That must be it. It DOES sound like French, now that I press my ear up against the speaker. I was just dying to know, and couldn't find any info on this album anywhere on the web.... unsurprisingly.

I think you're right about it being Patty's mom. I don't know about the other sound.

Top of the World samples

Postby jmp31 » Sun Sep 13, 2009 8:50 am

Any chance the voice singing J'Irai la voir could be from a tape of Patty's French Canadian grandmother Imelda Martin and not her mother? I'd read that Patty commented somewhere that Top of the World was about her.

Wonder why it was removed from the re-make on Impossible Dream?
