Lucinda Williams

Yes, there's a whole world of music out there besides Patty.

I like "Broken Butterflies" but it has a totally different feel from the rest of Essence.
The title song is a personal loin burner.

How curious, Turk, as I'd rather say the title-song has a different feel from the rest of the album. This album is filled with slow, sad songs such as "Lonely Girls", "I Envy the Wind", "Blue", "Reason to Cry" and "Bus to Baton Rouge". Now, "Broken Butterflies" goes further than those, but it's rather in the same tone, just more sad and poetical, and (to me) more sublime. The atmosphere of this song is extraordinary. I don't know any other singer doing that.

I just saw on Lu's website that they've put the LA and NY shows up for sale. They're $17.50 each or all 5 for $70. So in case you want to hear any or all of those shows, they're there.

HI all. I know that this is very last minute, but...

I suddenly have an extra ticket for the Lucinda Williams (opener) / John Mellencamp concert for Saturday, August 2 at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley.

It's Section A, Row 7, Seat 7 and the price is $115 (face value--ticket plus charges). It's a ticket that I printed out at home, but if you want, we can go in together. The only thing I ask is that you don't talk through the show. Sorry to be so blunt, but that totally ruins concerts for me, and you will be sitting w/ my boyfriend and me.

It should be a great show, so if you're interested, please give me a call on my cell phone (415) 533-5312 after 10:00 AM. I"ll be in SF until around 2:00 and then will be over in Berkeley after that.

By the way, a new Lu album should be out in November, called Little Honey. 8)

I saw Lu open for John Mellencamp 2 weeks ago, and she was GREAT! She did a few songs from Little Honey (Real Love, Little Rock Star, Honey Bee, Tears of Joy, an It's A Long Way to the top) and they were all songs that you could dig into on the first listen. I can't wait for the new CD.

We're seeing Lu again, the night after Patty! How's that for a double header?

That's would be an almost perfect night for me! Add a little Todd Snider and David Childers to the mix ... I'd be in musical heaven!

I hope the show is one of the best! Enjoy and then tell us how much fun you had!

Has anyone heard the song "Lately" that Lucinda recorded for the Greg Brown tribute? OMG. It's so sad and beautiful. Lucinda at her best.

Get it here.

We closed that bar
And we closed that town
And the sun looked different
Comin' up than it did goin' down
That was long ago
Do you still love me
Or do you hate me
I wouldn't know
I haven't seen you
Lately

We could have died
Dancing in each other's arms
Or drivin' home close and warm
Out through the little farms
Or in the bed
Holdin' on
And shakin'
But we did not
And where you been
Lately

And I see your eyes
So dark and knowin'
And I wonder where
That distant train is goin'
If I found you
Would you smile
Would you take me
I only know
I miss you so much
Lately

I only know
I miss you so much
Lately

First time I've heard it, Turk. Thanks for sharing it ...

and for ruining my night.

Ha! Kidding about that last part.

It really is heart-breakingly beautiful. Glad I'll never know that kind of love ... except in my dreams ... where every heart is safe inside a fairytale.

Lucinda is simply amazing.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, T. Yes, Lucinda is amazing and I have always been a sucker for the sad songs. I'm glad as well that I'm not living the heartbreak expressed in the song.

Lucinda will be on Letterman this Thurs, Oct. 2.

Thursday night on Letterman -- cool!

Turk, if I haven't told you, I'm going to tell you now. I think you're one of the nicest people I've never met and you've got a great big heart.

*Gulp*
I'm turning red. That is so sweet, Theresa. Thank you vey much for saying that. I must say that I don't feel worthy. There are some of the most awesomest people in the world on this board. That is the truth.

I am glad you found your way to us as well, T. You've helped to liven up the place so much.

(((hugs))) to you!

You're sincerely welcome, Turk! Hugs right back at ya!

This board is full of wonderful people and I appreciate you guys allowing me to hang out, sharing your thoughts and views, and last, but not least ...

introducing me to new songs ... like Lucinda's.

Don't be so modest Turk! What she said is true. And, conversely, what Turk said is true, Theresa, thanks for livening it up around here with your enthusiasm!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish some more of those awesome folks would come round more often. I guess some are at ACL...or did they all desert for Facebook or what? Is there a party somewhere I don't know about? :?

P.S. I got chills just reading the words to that Lucinda tune, so I will check it out!
